So What…

does that mean for my family?

Where in the Word?  Acts 4:1-22   Salvation in No Other Name

Cross Reference Verse: Psalm 9:10

“And those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You.”

do we need?

Simply a place to gather

can we pray for?

Let’s pray that God will allow us to know Him better as we learn and use some of His names.

Let’s pray that we will ever be aware of the power and might of our God to do great things in our lives as well as in the lives of others.

   can we talk about?

I remember growing up that when my parents called to me, there was a big difference between “Jennifer, come here” and “Jennifer Paige Scott, get over here now!”  For the first call, I knew the request was pretty generic and really could be about anything.  But for the second, I usually snapped up pretty quick, knowing they wanted me for a specific reason (not usually a good one).

I’m sure all of us and our children can relate.  There’s something about using a person’s whole name that gets their attention quickly and focuses them on what is about to be discussed.

Well I think that may be a little similar to God.  It’s not that God listens more quickly to us if we use His specific names, because it is only by God’s grace that He listens to us at all!  But as is the great truth about prayer, I think it focuses us more on Who we are talking to.  We get a fuller understanding of who God is and His power.  As Peter told the Sanhedrin, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Look through the names of God listed below.  Perhaps this week as you and your family pray, you can use some of His names specifically in your prayers to remind yourselves just who exactly you are talking to.  Just like there is power in the blood, there is also power in the Name!
